This Week on Dialogos Radio: Interview with Professor Nikos Alexiou on his Oral History Project of Greek-Americans and the Greek Community of New York City

alexiouThis week on Dialogos Radio, the Dialogos Interview Series will be featuring an interview with professor Nikos Alexiou of Queens College in New York City.  Alexiou has extensively studied and researched the Greek-American community, and has recently launched an oral history project of Greek-Americans, primarily from the New York City area, where he will collect the stories, experiences, and recollections of members of New York City’s Greek community.  He will discuss the oral history project in this interview, as well as the past, present, and future of the Greek-American community.

This interview will air in Greek this Tuesday at 10:15 am (Greek time) on City International 106.1 FM in the Thessaloniki region and online at www.cityinternational.gr; and on Saturday and Sunday at 5 pm (Greek time) on Star Radio 104.6 FM in Rodos and Symi and online at www.starradio.com.gr.  The interview will air in English on Thursday at 1:30 pm (Eastern time) on WUSB 90.1 FM (in the Long Island, NY region) and online at www.wusb.fm, and on Friday at 9 am (Central time) on KVRX online at www.kvrx.org.

Dialogos Radio to be featured on The Voice of Greece

vogWe are excited to announce that our radio program, Dialogos Radio, and its producer/host, Michael Nevradakis, will be featured on The Voice of Greece.  This feature, which will focus on Dialogos Radio as well as Michael Nevradakis’ academic and journalistic work in Greece, and a discussion of the Greek diaspora in the United States, will air on the “O Taxydromos” radio program, hosted by Natassa Visarrionos, on Thursday, May 9th at 11 am GR (9 am GMT, 4 am Eastern).

This week on our broadcast, as part of the Dialogos Interview Series, we will be featuring an interview with Nikolaos Kakavoulis, the founder and CEO of Daily Secret, a group of websites featuring interesting “secrets” and attractions in dozens of cities and countries throughout the world.  Having begun purely as a project based in Athens, Greece, Daily Secret has since expanded well beyond Greece and is considered one of Greece’s entrepreneurial success stories of the past few years, in the midst of the economic crisis that the country–and much of the world–have both faced. This interview will air in Greek this week on our broadcasts in Thessaloniki and Rodos on City International 106.1 and Star Radio 104.6, respectively, and in English on our broadcasts in New York on WUSB and Texas on KVRX.

Dialogos Radio honored at the 1st Annual Greek Radio Awards!

radioawardsDialogos Radio has been honored as one of the awardees at the 1st Annual Greek Radio Awards.  The results, based on both a popular vote and an evaluation by a team of judges, were announced on Monday, February 25th, at the awards ceremony, held at the Noesis Science and Technology Center in Thessaloniki.  Dialogos Radio was honored alongside some of the biggest names in the Greek radio industry…an incredible honor for our program!  Dialogos Radio competed in three categories: best news-talk-culture program, best podcast, and best online-only radio station!  Dialogos Radio would like to especially thank Konstantinos Papatheodosiou and Sabina Cirioni of the Star Radio Network, Stelios Hatzigiannakis of the Hellenic Radio Museum, the organizers of the Greek Radio Awards, and finally, our loyal friends and listeners for their votes and support!

MN: Tell us about Omikron Project and what it does.

MK: Omikron Project is literally a bunch of girls and guys in Greece who are making creative content that can be distributed online – images, video, etc. – for two reasons. First to address Greece’s international image problems, and second to show the untold side of what’s going on in this country.  We’re a grassroots project: we’re all volunteers, there’s no company behind us or anything like that. We’ve got zero budget. And we’re an open group – anyone can join.

MN: How did the idea for Omikron Project first come about and how did the project get started?
